Steps the Governor Could Take To Cool Texas

Visit Sierra Club's site to send a message asking Governor Perry asking him to support the development of a plan on global warming in Texas.

The Governor needs to set a goal of reducing carbon emissions across the state to sustainable levels; Create a blue ribbon commission to develop a plan to reduce emissions!

It is the governors duty to increase the efficiency of the state to prevent blackouts, cut pollution, and save tax-payer's money. There should be a goal set to reduce transportation related emissions. Texas also needs to invest in renewable energy instead of more coal plants.

There are 18 unnecessary coal plants proposed for Texas and Governor Perry has issued an Executive Order to expedite the permitting of new coal plants. Texas has the potential to lead the nation in renewable energy and we stand to gain huge profits if we invest in those technologies today. Texas needs to have a goal to buy green power for all of the state by 2025.

Our Governor should also be preparing for the devastating effects gloabl warming will have on our water supply. Texas has already faced water shortages and cut-offs in some areas as our population has exploded, and a hotter climate will only further limit the amount of available water.
